Your child's day

Here at Ducklings we strongly believe that children learn through play. The ability to do this by interaction, involvement and fun ensures a child can access learning in a non-pressurised manner and therefore develop their abilities in all areas, for example, when playing with dough your child is exploring texture, weight and working out how to divide it in to pieces so everyone can play.

They discover new language when they discuss and describe their experience and enhance and develop their social skills when they play with others.

Every day a range of stimulating activities are provided for your child, each term we follow a new theme. All areas of the building are zoned and resources are frequently changed, thus creating an environment that encourages natural curiosity both indoors and outdoors through exploration, problem solving and investigation. All this and much more is provided through your child's play. By using the outdoor area as an extension of our room, we help them to be aware of the outside world, nature and life around them.

We have regular visits to our local library and also have various groups coming in to see the children, for example we have had Zoolab during our mini-beast theme, a dental hygienist to encourage the children's self-awareness skills, a visit from our donkey as we have adopted one from our local Donkey Sanctuary. We value parent input and encourage our parents to share any skill they may have with our children. Each child is given a keyworker and although all staff will monitor your child, it is the keyworker's responsibility to put together your child's profile and be available for any concerns you may have.

We display all the children's own work, along with photographs and observations so you can see first first hand what they are capable of. Newsletters are sent out regularly to inform you of anything that is happening at Ducklings and St. Margaret's School.
