Mealtimes

Good nutrition is vital to a child's health and well-being. The food we eat affects every aspect of our lives, mood, behaviour, our concentration, at this age children grow very quickly and are usually very active, so they need plenty of nutrients and calories. Here at Ducklings we try to offer the children a wide variety of foods from all the different food groups, we never add salt or sugar to our children's food. We only use free range chicken and eggs and try to use organic products wherever possible. We cater for vegetarian and specialist diets and welcome input and recipe ideas from all our parents.

Mealtimes are a social occasion and our children benefit from small table groups with an adult. They are encouraged to serve themselves and to use this opportunity to talk to each other about day to day events or any other exciting news that they may have, as each group is mixed age the ability to help each other is a skill regularly taught.

Milk (or milk alternative) is provided everyday along with fresh fruit juice. Fresh drinking water is constantly available from our water fountain. Our menu is rotated every three weeks and is constantly evaluated and changed where necessary (a sample menu is enclosed at the back of our brochure).
